About Applegate Studio
Empowering Dancers of All Ages
Our Whole Body & Soul Philosophy
At Applegate Dance Studio in Davis, California, our biggest pride is in creating an affirming, friendly, fun, family-like atmosphere and dance community. It is important to us that our dancers are challenged to develop strong foundations in dance, while flourishing both physically and mentally. It is important to us that each student at our ballet studio feels special and well taken care of.
We believe and practice that a soul's artistry flourishes best if it is nurtured by a sense of accomplishment, confidence, self-esteem and joy. Our dance studio provides a home in Davis for both the professionally oriented dancer and the recreational dancer, in the most suitable milieu for each.

Teaching Technique
Our ballet program is the mainstay of our studio. Developing strong classical technique is encouraged before or while exploring other dance forms. Our ballet technique is based on a mixture of the three main schools of ballet: Vaganova, Cecchetti, and The Royal Academy. We use exercises and theory from all three schools, adding in a modern understanding of kinetics. We are very conscientious in providing our students with sound technique that prevents injury and promotes many years of dance enjoyment.

Class Offerings
Founded by Lisa Applegate-Zimanyi in 1992, we are honored to have played such an integral part in the lives of hundreds of unique and amazing individuals over the years. As we move well beyond our 25th anniversary celebration, we look forward to meeting the physical movement needs of even more individuals as we expand our dance and fitness classes to better serve the physical and emotional needs of the amazing adults of the Davis community, and our surrounding cities of Vacaville, Dixon, Woodland, and West Sacramento.

For older kids (ages 12 and up) who want to learn ballet, but don't yet have any classical ballet experience, we recommend they start with our Teen and Adult ballet classes. Combining those classes with optional private lessons, until they reach a level at which they can join a youth class with kids closer to their own age. Teens tend to progress quicker, but the more regularly they are able to practice the more quickly they will be able to join their age cohort.
For Adults getting back into ballet, our drop-in classes provide the flexibility to adjust your class choice from week to week to best meet your current level. If you ever find yourself being overly challenged by a class, know that you can always remain on the bar when the class moves to center work.
